or more than a decade Bill Voss has been leading and practicing at the Texas-based Voss Law Firm, PC as founder. A graduate of the Thurgood Marshall School of Law, he is a ninth-generation Texan and his grandmother is a descendant of Davy Crockett. Beyond his ancestry, Bill Voss maintains an active presence in his community through his support of such organizations as the American Red Cross.
In early April 2017, the American Red Cross released its first quarter reports for home fire responses. According to the report, the organization responded to 35 multi-unit and large home fires during the first few months of 2017. This amount is three times higher than the first quarter of 2016, which saw only 11 large home and multi-unit building responses.
In light of this increase, the Red Cross is encouraging homeowners in the United States to practice fire drills and check smoke alarms every month. The organization is also encouraging homeowners to create a fire escape plan for their families. Planning ahead can dramatically decrease the risk of death in the event of a house fire.
Beyond its suggestions, the organization is continuing its Home Fire Campaign. This campaign was launched in 2014 in an attempt to improve the odds of survival when house fires occur. It hosts fire safety events around the country and helps install smoke alarms, replace alarm batteries, and develop fire escape plans. Since its inception, the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign has saved over 200 lives and installed over 744,000 smoke alarms.
